PEACHTREE CORNERS - The United Peachtree Corners Civic Association (UPCCA) is hosting three voter forums for the candidates who have qualified to run for elected office in the Peachtree Corners City Council races.

District One (Post 1) will be held on Monday, January 30, 2012. James Blum, a lawyer with the Atlanta firm of Beloin, Brown, Blum & Wise, LLC, will be the facilitator.

District Two (Post 2) will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Bert Nasuti, former District 2 Gwinnett County Commissioner, will be the facilitator.

District Three (Post 3) will be held on Monday, February 6, 2012. Gwinnett Superior Court Judge Warren Davis will be the facilitator.

All eleven At-Large candidates (Posts 4, 5, and 6) are invited to attend all three of the forums.

With this particular forum configuration, voters need only attend one forum for the district in which they reside and they will be able to meet all candidates that they can potentially vote for. All forums will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 5575 Peachtree Parkway, from 7:30 pm until 9:00 pm.

Mayor-elect Mike Mason is running unopposed. He is scheduled to attend all three forums. Voting for Peachtree Corners City Council is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, the day of the Georgia Presidential Primary.

Citizens of Peachtree Corners

Thank you to everyone who voted in the historic referendum creating the new City of Peachtree Corners.  Our next step is on March 6, 2012, when we elect the Mayor and City Council.  On November 15 the County Commission will determine the filing period and fees for those races.  We will get the word out as soon as we have the facts.  UPCCA will sponsor its usual political forum to allow the community to meet and get to know each candidate.  I am sure there will be many others.  More on that as it develops.

Our final step is to work together to implement the unique limited City concept.  The whole State is watching.  No other new City has ever put this much control in the hands of its citizens.  I am confident we will succeed.  Just as Paul Duke’s Peachtree Corners was a model for planned live-work-play communities in the past, our City will become a model for Cities in the future.  Peachtree Corners has always been known for leadership.

Respectfully,

Mike Mason, President

United Peachtree Corners Civic Association

WE DID IT!!! Yesterday, Governor Nathan Deal signed a bill into law that allows us to vote on making Peachtree Corners a city. While we have to wait for approval from the United States Justice Department, in all likelihood a referendum to vote on making Peachtree Corners a city will take place this November. You can read more at this link from the Peachtree Corners Patch and thanks for all the hard work and dedication so many people have provided for so long to make this happen!

The Standing Rules have been updated here while the ByLaws have been updated here. Please note that the changes to the ByLaws are in bold text and will need to be ratified by a vote of official UPCCA voting members to take effect.

Dear Residents of Peachtree Corners:

UPCCA has partnered with a group planning our community’s very first street festival.  The Peachtree Corners Festival is being planned as a family friendly event open to the residents of Peachtree Corners and the surrounding communities.  The setting for the June 11th Festival is on the shady tree-lined street, “The Corners Parkway.”  It will begin at 10:00 am and close at 6:00 pm.  It is a spacious location with ample parking one block west of Peachtree Parkway between Holcomb Bridge Road and Crooked Creek Road.  It will be the community’s first opportunity to showcase the many wonderful restaurants, artists & talents that make Peachtree Corners unique.   It will offer a juried art & craft show, live music all day long, activities for children, a car show for the guys and plenty of great food for all!

The committee is still looking for artists, food vendors, talented entertainers and let’s not leave out sponsors.  They will need a large staff of volunteers to assist with the planning and to work on the day of the event.  Please go to their website at www.peachtreecornersfestival.org to learn more and get contact information.

Please join in to make this a memorable event for everyone!

Thanks,

Mike

Fellow Citizens of Peachtree Corners

Today the Senate passed HB 396, the City of Peachtree Corners.  This is truly a momentous day.  Next, it goes to the Governor’s desk for approval, then it must be certified by the US Department of Justice.

I will keep you informed of our progress.

Thank you for all your support,

Mike Mason

Fellow Citizens of Peachtree Corners

February 28th will become a  historic day for our community.  On that date, the legislation creating the City of Peachtree Corners was introduced.  Many thanks go to Rep. Tom Rice and the other cosponsors of this legislation.  Now UPCCA is committed to telling you more about the City: the benefits and costs, how it will be organized, the timing of the referendum, and election of City officials.  If you follow the link you will find the proposed Charter for the City of Peachtree Corners.

Please contact me directly at president@upcca.org if you have individual questions or I would be glad to speak to your HOA or other group about the City.

Thank you for your support for our community,

Mike Mason
