Letter From Commissioner Bert Nasuti Concerning East Jones Bridge Park

We are working hard on the Jones Bridge Park issues - I will provide you this update you can share with others. Since I was contacted by folks about trash, noise, and racing in and out of the park, we have done the following:

  1. The park police have stepped up patrols in the area and inside the park - there is a much greater police presence there, especially on weekends. It is a noticeable difference.
  2. The park staff is cleaning the bathrooms on weekends and emptying the trash on weekends.
  3. The park is being monitored very closely - I have been in the park myself several times every Saturday and Sunday for the last 3 weekends - this will continue - I have noticed very, very heavy park usage but I haven't noticed any conduct that would be improper or illegal.
  4. With the quick assistance of Brian Allen and our DOT staff, we have installed two speed humps on E. Jones Bridge as you leave the park and head towards Simpson Elementary School - to the extent anyone was trying to drag race in this area, they can't now - Staff will consider a third speed hump if needed but our traffic engineers for now, feel where we have located them should solve the problem.
This stepped up activity on our part will continue indefinitely - and if anyone sees or hears of any problems, they can notify me or Sharon Plunkett, Phil Hoskins, or anyone else on our staff.

Also, there are some sidewalk and intersection improvements coming at Pinckneyville Middle School at W. Jones Bridge and Jones Bridge Circle, on down Jones Bridge Circle to and past Stilson Circle, to Fitzpatrick and at the intersection of Fitzpatrick and Jones Bridge Circle (at the entrance to North Manor) - I will provide an update regarding these projects under separate e mail.

Regards,
Bert Nasuti
District 2 Commissioner
